Day 1

Daily Highlights

Katherine Gorge

Setting off early in the morning from tropical Darwin, we travel south along the iconic Stuart Highway towards Katherine. Along the way we pass through the townships of Adelaide River and Pine Creek, marvelling at the abundance and variety of rare and unique plants and wildlife endemic to this stunning region.

Together we embark on a two-hour NitNit Dreaming Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk) boat cruise. Stand in awe as you drift by the majestic cliff faces and rock formations soaring up to 70 metres high, illuminated by the sun’s ever-changing light. Experience the rich culture and history of Katherine’s Jawoyn people, the traditional custodians of the land as you are guided through this special region. Then get ready for more adventure as we make your way to Edith Falls (Leliyn), where you’ll once again be blown away by the breathtaking scenery.

Arriving at the remarkable Edith Falls (Leliyn), we take some time out to relax, enjoy a picnic lunch and (depending on seasonal conditions) you’ll have a chance to cool off with a swim in the pristine natural waterhole and absorb the tranquil surroundings. We then wander back through the beautiful townships of Pine Creek and Adelaide River, returning to Darwin and allowing the magic of this special place to linger as we go our separate ways.

**Please note that Edith Falls (Leliyn) will be visited before or after the Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk) boat cruise, depending on timing.
