This tour is an emotive journey into the heart of the Red Centre designed to give you some flexibility at the end of the tour to enjoy the wonders of Uluru (Ayers Rock), and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) the way you want. Wayoutback Safaris will show you the Red Centre like a true local with this authentic outback adventure travelling with a small group in a purpose- built four-wheel-drive vehicle, escorted by professional guides.

Not only will we give you the opportunity to experience desert driving on red dirt roads, but you’ll also avoid the crowds staying at our remote private bush camps sleeping under the clearest southern stars you can imagine in a traditional swag and/or comfortable permanent safari tent.

DAY 1 - Ernest Giles Dirt Trek, Mereenie Loop, Tylers Pass, West Macdonnell’s private bush camp

Starting in Alice Springs at 06.00 am, you will be collected from your accommodation (or nearest pick up point) for the first day of this big adventure. Drive 90 minutes to Stuart’s well for a comfort stop and to grab a quick coffee and breakfast for those who want it.

After a short drive you will enjoy the capabilities of your 4WD vehicle on the first of many outback dirt roads experienced on this touring package. Join the Ernest Giles road for approximately 100 kilometres of dirt road driving and red desert scenery, before arriving to meet your other tour guests that started at Uluru a few days prior. Enjoy lunch and get to know your fellow travel mates.

Afterward we take a breathtaking four wheel drive to Tyler’s Pass, which presents majestic 360 degree views of this stunning landscape. From here you will see views of Tnorala (Gosses Bluff crater) a sacred site which scientists believe to be the remnants of an object from space believed to be a comet, that crashed to earth around 142.5 million years ago. Tyler’s Pass on the famous Mereenie Loop road presents a great opportunity to spot some native wildlife amongst amazing scenery.

We finish the afternoon at our remote bush camp in the Western MacDonnell Ranges. Sleep tonight under the clearest skies with no light pollution. You will think that you can almost touch the stars.

DAY 2 - West MacDonnell Ranges, including Mt Sonder Lookout, Ormiston Gorge, Ellery Creek Big Hole and the Ochre Pits

While having breakfast we view sunrise from camp and then head off to amazing views from Mt Sonder lookout. Then it’s on to Ormiston Gorge to hike the Ghost Gum Walk followed by a swim in the rock hole.

Heading further east along the ranges we visit the Ochre Pits, a registered sacred site still used by traditional owners for its Ochre deposits, and Ellery Creek Big Hole, one of the West MacDonnell Ranges most picturesque swimming and walking spots known to the locals as Udepata.

After lunch we start the drive to Owen Springs Reserve and onto Redbank Waterhole bush camp, collecting firewood along the way to keep you warm in our most remote camp of the trip. Enjoy dinner and star gazing around the campfire.

MEALS INCLUDED - DAY TWO Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

DAY 3 - Camel Farm, Indigenous Cultural Experience and overnight camp at Yulara

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before we leave camp and begin making our way to Uluru stopping en-route at the Outback Camel Farm. Here we get to see how these amazing ships of the desert are so critical to the fabric of the red centre, as the oldest form of transport.

Our next stop is to enjoy a well-earned lunch followed by the opportunity to immerse your self in an authentic indigenous cultural experience.  Enjoy a leisurely-guided walk with our indigenous custodians while learning about bush tucker and the healing powers of bush medicine and gain an insight into Aboriginal dot paintings.

We now head to Uluru for our final night in the outback. Viewing Atila along the way and stopping at Curtin Springs cattle station for a comfort stop, you’ll arrive at dusk to our comfortable camp for a nice hot shower. Due to the short winters days’, viewing sunset on Uluru is not achievable this evening.  Settle in for our last dinner together around the campfire and marvel again at some of the clearest skies you can imagine.

MEALS INCLUDED - DAY THREE Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

DAY 4 - Sunrise view of Uluru, depart Ayers Rock Resort or continue to Alice Springs

Enjoy your final breakfast in the Outback and witness sunrise over Uluru before a quick trip into the resort township. Here you will have free time to explore some of the Resort facilities and arrange a visit to Uluru or Kata Tjuta (the Olgas, at your own expense). If you are staying an extra night at Ayers Rock Resort you may wish to participate in a range of free activities from Museum Tours to Bush Yarns, otherwise board the airport shuttle to meet your outgoing flight, or remain on the vehicle for those wishing to travel back to Alice Springs. You will arrive into Alice Springs at approximately 4.00pm. Accommodation is not included this night. (Breakfast)
