Our Ethos - What Makes Wayoutback's Outback 4WD Safaris Different?
Wayoutback was established in 1999 and since this time has forged an enviable reputation from within the tourism industry and from the thousands of very satisfied customers who recommend us to other adventure travellers.
We are adventure tour specialists in Central Australia exploring Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon, Palm Valley and West MacDonnell Ranges. If you want to experience the “icons, culture and traditions” of the Red Centre in 4 wheel drives with small groups, then Wayoutback is for you.
Our Commitment to Offering Authentic Aboriginal Interaction
We believe that to get a thorough understanding of Central Australia then meeting and interacting with local Aboriginal people is paramount. They have been living in the area for in excess of 20,000 years and have a unique history and relationship with the land. To hear their stories first-hand will give you an insight you won’t forget in a hurry.
The Oak Valley Aboriginal Community south of Alice Springs is an inspirational Aboriginal owned and operated tour business and community which we visit on our 2.5 and 5 Day Safaris as well as our new
2 Day Culture and Country Safari . It lies in beautiful desert country boasting its own fossil field, rock carvings and paintings as well as an olive plantation. Here you can learn directly from local Aboriginal people about their way of life, art and hunting, etc. To read more visit the
Oak Valley Aboriginal Community page.
Last year we introduced a new indigenous experience to our 3 and 5 Day Safaris. While at Uluru (Ayers Rock) you can take the optional Aboriginal Guided
Kuniya Walk where you will learn directly from Anangu (indigenous custodians) about their mythological stories tied into Uluru and the intimate relationship they have with it.
You can’t put a price on a once in a lifetime experience
A Red Centre adventure tour will be one of the highlights of your trip to Australia, so why not make it “super special” by really getting in amongst it rather than just seeing it (big difference).
The name “WAYOUTBACK” typifies our belief that the only way to experience the authentic Red Centre is to get far away from the crowds in small groups (max.16), bounce your way along bush tracks in a 4WD, swim in remote waterholes, camp in the middle of nowhere, cook over an open camp fire and drift off to sleep under the stars by the fire – a truly Outback Australian tradition!
"Opened my eyes to the real outback, not just the tourist destinations." (typical end of safari comment)
Because we are a genuine small group operator, we may not be the cheapest tour around but we’re confident we are the best and offer the best value. All our vehicles and equipment are of a very high standard, our campsites are well chosen spots away from other tourists and our guides are well trained and friendly. It's also often the little things that can make the difference to your adventure tour - fresh plunger coffee and herbal teas, chilled face towels when the mercury is high and top quality equipment to give you that feeling of confidence.
Small is beautiful
Wayoutback is the last of the genuine small group operators based out of Alice Springs. We carry a maximum of only 16 passengers in late model air conditioned Toyota Landcruiser and Mitsubishi Canter 4WDs which are specially modified for the bush.
The smaller group numbers provide our Guides with more flexibility and versatility not generally available with larger group sizes so they can showcase the many unique features of this beautiful region. It is fair to state that those who travel WAYOUTBACK actually realise the true “Aussie” outback in a friendly and relaxed manner, which enhances our reputation as the premier 4-wheel drive adventure tour company in Central Australia.
Taking our environmental responsibilities seriously
More so than many other tourist destinations, the Red Centre is a very fragile environment and so in order to preserve our own future we need to make sure our activities are sustainable and representative of all facets of the region including indigenous culture.
Wayoutback is the only Advanced Eco-Tourism Accredited Tour Company based in Alice Springs operating in the Red Centre. It is the highest acknowledgement for environmental understanding, operational practices and cultural representation as defined by Ecotourism Australia.
Wayoutback also achieved Carbon Neutrality in 2008/2009 and we are on our way to achieving this again in 2009/2010. Our Carbon Offset program with LMS Generation PTY LTD, is provided at no additional cost to our customers.
Respect Our Culture Program
Wayoutback has recently been granted Respect of Culture Program (ROC) certification which indicates we are an endorsed Indigenous Tourism Business. This program recognizes our sustainable business and environmental practices as well as the observance of cultural protocols, particularly through acknowledgment of the diversity of Indigenous Australia and consultation with them.
Our "not so wayout" mission is to make your tour one of the most memorable you'll ever have.
HAPPY TRAVELS
