DESERT YOGA combines the two spiritual traditions of pilgrimage and yoga into a unique walking journey. Daily yoga will enhance the experience of being in a profoundly beautiful desert environment of the MacDonnell Ranges. The yoga will complement the walking experience which will access sections of the extraordinary Larapinta Trail. Base camps will be established at the old Hamilton Downs Homestead and then on Aboriginal land over the Range. Each day will commence with morning yoga classes and conclude with a meditation as the sun sets over the desert.
LULU BULL is the senior teacher at the Blue Mountains Yoga School and is a direct student of BKS Iyengar. Lulu has been practising and teaching for over 20 years and conducts teacher training within the school and travels interstate to conduct retreats and workshops. Yoga and meditation classes will be suitable for all levels and taught in the Iyengar method.
The itinerary is based around the capacity and objectives of the group and seeks to capture elements such as indigenous culture, yoga, meditation and interpretative guiding within the context of a walking journey. Please note that the itinerary may change due to weather, Aboriginal cultural imperatives or simply to better suit the objectives of the group (see Itinerary link below)
Fitness and Training: Desert Yoga is designed for students of all levels. The walking component of Desert Yoga is a vital ingredient in feeling the landscape around you. The walks are medium grade and will be between 4 and 6 hours in length. Be aware that the MacDonnell Ranges terrain is uneven with some ascents. The adventure is graded easy to moderate, requiring a fair level of aerobic fitness. Please contact Wayoutback Desert Safaris to discuss any fitness issues. You will carry a simple day pack that includes water, jacket, lunch, camera etc.
Camp Life: Our nights under the stars will be a highlight of the trip. Whilst the facilities are basic there will be a pit toilet and washing facilities. Sleeping will be in comfortable swags with mosquito-proof tents. All camping gear is supplied. You will be expected to share some tasks around the camp such as rolling your sleeping bag etc.
Climate: Expect cool nights and warm, clear days. This is generally a magnificent time of the year in the Australian desert with everything that crawls soundly asleep and no or few flies.
