Darwin: Food, Festivals and Warm Winter Weather

Main Image
This laid-back capital is known for its live entertainment, natural beauty and a multicultural vibrancy that pulses through the city day and night. Darwin is a thoroughly modern port, with a long and rich history. The original inhabitants are the Larrakia people. Its first European visitor was John Clements Wickham, who arrived in 1839 and named the area in honor of Charles Darwin. Nearly destroyed by air raids during WWII and again by Cyclone Tracy in 1974, the city has been proudly rebuilt twice.
