Time and Space to Feel the Heartbeat of the Desert

Wayoutback offers an authentic outback adventure tour with a touch of style and quality. We are a genuine small group operator carrying a maximum of 16 people in purpose built 4-wheel drive vehicles. As well as experiencing the wonders of Uluru (tour Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Watarrka (Kings Canyon), we'll give you the opportunity to really experience the desert; driving on dirt roads, bush camping, eating quality food cooked over a campfire and sleeping under the clearest southern stars you can imagine.

Learn From the Traditional Aboriginal Land Owners

This year we are introducing two new opportunities to experience and learn directly from the indigenous land owners of Central Australia. While at Uluru you can go on the Aboriginal Guided Kuniya Walk+ where you will learn a great deal from Anangu about their mythological stories tied to Uluru and the intimate relationship they have with it.

After our walk at Watarrka we visit Lilla Aboriginal Community for lunch, the traditional home of the Luritja people. After lunch you will be invited to join Sadie Williams on a one hour guided Willy Wagtail Walk+ where you’ll get to hear stories of Lilla, view a sacred women’s area, hear about bush tucker and get a demonstration into the use of various artifacts.

+ Cost additional to Wayoutback tour.

Where Others Fear to Tread

We'll add a more adventurous element to the trip, leaving the sealed road behind for a typical outback dirt road. If that's not outback enough, we then head 'wayoutback' 4-wheel driving on bush tracks, across riverbeds and over sand dunes boldly going where no other tours dare.

Our Guides Among the Best

One of the most important aspects of Wayoutback is the caliber of our guides. They are among the best in Central Australia through their enthusiasm and ability to bring people together to have the best time. This is backed up with extensive local knowledge of geology, the Aboriginal (Anangu) people, plus local and European history.

Note: Due to the adventurous nature of our safaris, unpredictable weather / road conditions and long travel times, Wayoutback strongly recommends travellers take out Travel Insurance including Cancellation Cover.

The Aboriginal people of the Western Desert region of Central Australia suffer rates of kidney failure up to 30 times the National average. When treated in urban centres, usually followed by their extended families, the prognosis for them and their family is grim. Being uprooted from their homelands, which they are profoundly connected to, kills the spirit.
A community based dialysis service has been set up out in their homelands so patients in need of treatment can do so in the place they were born with their family there to support them.
