Minimal Impact Driving Code

We traverse many diverse & sensitive regions. This allowance will never be taken for granted. Our continued access of these unique areas is only permitted because of our acute understanding of the sensitivity of the immediate environment, the practices we adopt to ensure the sustainability of that environment and the relationship nurtured with the Land Owners/Managers whose country we traverse.

  • Adherence to Legislated Road Speed Limits. On unsealed roads the speed limit   is set at a maximum 80kph.
  • Always adhere to Road Condition Reports as issued by the Regional Road Authority.
  • Alternative routes will always be adopted with the onset of inclement weather. Tours routes will be regularly rotated to minimise impact.
  • Access to Private Tracks only negotiated with the exclusive permission of the land owner.
  • Always negotiating existing tracks and not creating new tracks. Where diversion is necessary due to water erosion etc. a visual assessment is undertaken ensuring any diversion is at an absolute minimum, safety of the vehicle, passengers and minimising impact due to environment/vegetation.
  • Traversing of all sensitive regions is encouraged in the cool of the morning. The heat of the middle of the day is discouraged when traversing arid land sensitive areas.
  • Four Wheel Driving only utilised when absolutely necessary.
  • Low Range 4x4 choice is advocated in a low speed, rocky, sandy terrain ensuring absolute control of the vehicle and load. This avoids the incidence of side-slipping and the un-needed widening of unsealed tracks.
  • Tyre Pressures are reduced at all times to negotiate “soft” country minimising breakthrough of soil structure and the incidence of corrugations.
  • Any destroyed vegetation intruding the tracks is removed ensuring use of existing track and not creating additional environment impact.
  • Damaged track areas are repaired to assist traversing and to minimise impact on damaged areas. All damages are reported to the Land Owner upon arrival at the destination.
  • Keep vehicles to the highest & driest ground. Wet crossings at 90 degrees to the embankment.
  • Top loading of trailers is kept to an absolute minimum. It is encouraged that loads are lowered to assist with trailer tracking.
  • Traversing of weather impacted Sand Dunes is discouraged. The use of perimeter tracks around sensitive areas is encouraged
