3 Day Uluru, Kata Tjuta & Kings Canyon 4WD Eco Experience Itinerary
Day 1 (Dinner)
You have the choice of either Alice Springs or Uluru commencement. Please specify at the time of booking.
Uluru Commencement
Your guide will meet you at either Ayers Rock Airport or Ayers Rock Resort before immediately setting off towards Kings Canyon. The latest flight arrival we meet is Virgin Blue at 1.20pm.
As we make our way toward Kings Canyon Resort, keep an eye out for feral Camels, Brumbies, Wedge Tail Eagles and a host of other exotic wildlife along the way. We will include stops at Curtin Springs Cattle Station, Mount Connor (mesa tableland), Lake Amadeus (giant salt pan), The George Gill Ranges, Kings Creek Station and finally Kings Canyon Resort where you will check in and have some time to relax.
Time permitting, enjoy a sparkling wine and canapés as we watch an amazing sunset on Carmichael Crag at the western end of Kings Canyon.
Tonight, enjoy a sumptuous dinner at Carmichael’s Restaurant at the Resort.
Alice Springs Commencement
We have designed this Safari for guests flying into Alice Springs to visit Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and Kings Canyon without the need to stay overnight prior to departure.
We'll collect you from Alice Springs Airport or the Alice Springs Rail Terminal up to 2.00pm before heading south along the sealed Stuart Highway and then west along a typical outback dirt road, the Ernest Giles, en route to Kings Canyon Resort. There will be refreshment stops along the way including Camels Australia (Stuarts Well) where you can choose to take a short camel ride*.
On arrival at Kings Canyon Resort, our home for the night, check in to your 4 star hotel room before enjoying your evening dinner at Carmichael’s Restaurant within the Resort.
If time permits, we will enjoy a sparkling wine with a selection of canapés whilst watching the amazing sunset on Carmichael Crag at the western end of Kings Canyon.
Day 2 (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Breakfast can be enjoyed from 6.00am in the hotel restaurant, before checking out and taking a short drive to Kings Canyon for an early walk to beat the heat of the day.
The guided Rim Walk is an amazing experience and something that many people regard as one of the highlights of Central Australia. Botanically and spiritually rich, combined with scenic opportunities such as the weathered and buttressed domes that surround the Amphitheatre, the Lost City and Garden of Eden which will leave you in wonder. The walk is suitable for people with a good fitness level and takes approximately three hours to complete. For those wanting the softer option, you may take the shorter and easier Kings Creek Walk leading into the centre of the Canyon.
Rejoining our 4-wheel drive we stop for a short break at Kings Creek Station before travelling to Willonga Well where, under the shade of the mighty Desert Oaks, we enjoy lunch and perhaps a glass or two of wine.
Arriving mid afternoon at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park experience Kata Tjuta and the Walpa Gorge “Windy Gully” walk, suitable for most fitness levels. Your Wayoutback Desert Safaris guide will impart their extensive knowledge of the geology and unique botanical adaptations present on the walk as well as the cultural significance of Kata Tjuta to the local Anangu people. The striking colour and sheer enormity of these ancient dome like structures is absolutely awe inspiring and a highly treasured location to the local people.
Afterwards, check in at your hotel within Ayers Rock Resort. For guests choosing to participate in the Sounds of Silence Dinner* there is time to prepare for your evening under the stars. This includes transport to an exclusive sunset location, a la carte 3 course dinner, beverages, didgeridoo performance, star talk and return transfers to your hotel by approximately 10.30pm.
Those not attending Sounds of Silence, join your Wayoutback Desert Safaris guide and travel to a remote location to observe the changing colours of Uluru and Kata Tjuta at sunset. This will be accompanied with canapés and wine or cool refreshments. At the conclusion of sunset we return to the hotel for a 3 course dinner and time to chat about the days events and discuss what’s in store for the next day.
Day 3 (Breakfast & Lunch†)
Today it is up before the birds, departing the Resort under darkness as we travel to a location to witness the birth of a new day, observing the sun’s rays enveloping the mighty monolith of Uluru along with Kata Tjuta in the distance, a site often just as inspiring as Uluru.
Guests electing to climb Uluru will be supplied with a breakfast box and taken directly to the base of Uluru to commence their 2 – 2.5 hour climb (Anangu discourage people from climbing). After sunrise, those not climbing will return to the hotel for breakfast, check out and luggage store.
Guests choosing to visit Uluru with your Wayoutback Desert Safaris guide will rendezvous with guests that climbed Uluru to experience the wonderful walks around the base, learning of the creation myths and fascinating geology of Uluru. There is time to visit the Cultural Centre and its Interpretative Display and Galleries before returning to the Hotel to collect your luggage.
For those departing from Ayers Rock Airport, your guide will deliver you by 12.30pm and for those returning to Alice Springs, we commence our journey back, stopping at Curtin Springs Station for a typical Aussie BBQ lunch. We will return you to your hotel at approximately 5.30pm after three days of stunning beauty and adventure.
